Laura Linney described 1995’s Congo, which was her debut film, as a “delightmare.”
Based on the 1980 novel by Michael Crichton, the film landed seven nominations at the Golden Raspberry Awards.
The film also featured Dylan Walsh, Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, Bruce Campbell, and Delroy Lindo.

Laura Linney has starred in her fair share of award-winning projects, but she’s not without a few rotten tomatoes.

The Golden Globe winner reflected on her past roles with The Independent, including her debut role in 1995’s Congo that nabbed seven nominations (including Worst Picture) at the Golden Raspberry Awards, which honor the worst of cinematic failures.

Despite the film’s negative reception, the American Classic star shared admiration for the action film that follows an expedition team that encounters a violent gorilla species deep in the African jungle.

“Congo’s one of the great bad movies of our time!” she shared. “It’s a great one. It’s a delightmare. That’s what I call it.”

Directed by Frank Marshall and based on the 1980 novel by Michael Crichton, the film also starred Dylan Walsh, Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, Bruce Campbell, and Delroy Lindo.

The Frasier actress admitted she hasn’t watched the film “in so long” but might rewatch to have a glimpse of her younger self. “I’ll go back to it when I’m really old and want to feel good about myself, and be like, ‘Oh God, I was young. I was sweet — look at that. And look at my arms!’ I’ll do that,” she said.

Linney also detailed her time playing Wendy Byrde on Ozark, for which she received three Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

“It was very special,” Linney said of her time on the Netflix series and working with costar Jason Bateman, who played her husband Marty Byrde, a financial advisor who begins to launder money for a Mexican drug cartel.

“He understands filmmaking to his bone, in his marrow,” Linney said of the Zootopia star who also helped direct the series. “He loves being behind the camera far more than he likes being in front of it.”
