Bryce Mitchell’s post-fight interviews are almost as exciting as his fights – although he made a case for the latter tonight.
The controversial bantamweight contender is now on an unbeaten run since making the move down from featherweight, scoring a last-gasp submission to end Santiago Luna’s winning start to his career. And he took the microphone after the fact, making yet another viral moment.
Comment below who you think could go on to match the likes of Petr Yan and Merab Dvalishvili.
Mitchell, draped in a US flag, impressively recalled a bible verse while speaking to Paul Felder after going almost the entirely of the three rounds. He finished his interview by declaring ‘Viva Mexico’, which carries particular weight as he claims to be banned from next weekend’s UFC White House event.
Undefeated prospect Santiago Luna was given a lesson in grappling for three rounds by Bryce Mitchell tonight. It took the American almost the entire 15 minutes to score the submission, but did eventually get the arm triangle choke with eight seconds left on the clock.
After the fact, he held Luna’s hand up in a show of respect and managed to remember the Isaiah 6:8 Bible verse in his first comments. He then spoke about the result, telling Felder: “There were transitions where he did get on top.
“I didn’t quite earn the takedown, he kind of tripped a little and I fell into it but I was a bit more fatigued in the second or third round. But it was a much closer fight than what it looked like because of small transitions where he would have got on top and won rounds. He also bloodied me up.
“He’s 21-years-old and I’m 31-years-old. He took this fight on a week’s notice, so without this kid there’s no fight.” He then finished his chat by declaring ‘Viva Mexico’.
