Disney Officially Confirms the End of 'The Mandalorian'
For a show that was something of an experiment designed to make Disney+ more attractive when it first launched, The Mandalorian very quickly found itself at the center of the Star Wars universe. It proved, at least for a time, that Star Wars could thrive both away from the Skywalkers and Jedi and on the small screen, too, but after three seasons and a move to the big screen, the show’s future has remained frustratingly unclear until now.
A new official Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu behind-the-scenes featurette lists The Mandalorian as running from 2019 to 2023, apparently identifying Season 3 as the end of the Disney+ series. Now, Lucasfilm has not released a formal cancellation statement, and a fourth season has never officially been ruled out, but placing an end date beside the show in official marketing strongly suggests the studio no longer considers it an ongoing television series.
The film saw Din and Grogu off on what felt like three matinee adventures alongside Rotta the Hutt who, if you haven’t heard, doesn’t want to be anything like his father. The film wasn’t exactly a box office smash, but it certainly did enough to prove that there was still an appetite for Star Wars on the big screen, to a point. Next year’s Starfighter will be a tougher test of that.

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 4 Was Reworked Into a Movie
Jon Favreau previously confirmed that scripts had been written for The Mandalorian Season 4 before the story was reworked into The Mandalorian and Grogu, with the film arriving in cinemas on May 22, continuing Din and Grogu’s story after the events of Season 3. Obviously, the series is left in a strange position now because a future television series would need to jump off what happened in the film.
The end of the Disney+ series would not necessarily mean the end of the characters. Ahsoka Season 2 remains part of the continuing MandoVerse, while Dave Filoni has long been attached to a crossover movie expected to bring together characters from the interconnected shows. Din and Grogu could also continue through animation, comics, or other Star Wars projects.
