D23 has LEGO Star Wars fans dreaming of a 16-year comeback

As D23 begins in California, all eyes are turning arctic, as one Star Wars costume could pave the way for the return of a forgotten LEGO Star Wars minifigure. 

As Disney’s biggest fan event gets underway, some of the LEGO Group’s most popular licensed IPs are being put in the limelight. Few are more popular than Star Wars, and this year, we’re expecting plenty of information about Ahsoka Season 2 to come to light.

Now delayed until early 2027, the show based on the iconic Clone Wars character featured flashback scenes in its first season involving Anakin Skywalker and Captain Rex. Now, costumes displayed ahead of the event hint that something similar could happen in the upcoming season, which could be great news for LEGO Anakin fans.

An image circulating online shows an Anakin Skywalker outfit in full snow gear. You can identify the character with some certainty thanks to the lightsaber, while the outfit itself is instantly recognisable to Clone Wars fans. Anakin wore it – or a similar outfit – during the first season of The Clone Wars, when he and Obi-Wan Kenobi investigated a missing Republic outpost on Orto Plutonia.

More importantly, Anakin wore the same outfit in the 2010 LEGO Star Wars set 8085 Freeco Speeder, and the minifigure has not appeared in that form since.

The presence of the outfit in the new season could therefore pave the way for a future LEGO model featuring Anakin in the same gear. The first season of Ahsoka received several LEGO sets, including 75362 Ahsoka Tano’s T-6 Jedi Shuttle and 75357 Ghost & Phantom II.

What makes the costume particularly intriguing, though, is that Ahsoka herself did not feature in the Clone Wars arc on Orto Plutonia. It will therefore be interesting to see how the outfit fits into the story of Ahsoka Season 2.

From a LEGO perspective, though, the most important part is that it could open the door to something we haven’t seen in more than 16 years – and something we’d certainly love to see return.
