The last 10 days of the summer transfer window will be frantic for several clubs across Europe. However, there will be calmness at Sabner Strasse. Bayern Munich will sit back and observe after completing their business for new signings earlier this summer.
The Bavarian club is focusing on departures of fringe players in the final days of the window. They are close to completing the departure of Joao Palhinha. The Portuguese midfielder is close to joining Benfica, where he will reunite with his former head coach at Fulham, Marco Silva.
In terms of signings, Bayern strengthened their defense, midfield, and attack by signing three players. Ismael Saibari arrived from PSV Eindhoven for €55 million to add more quality to an explosive attack.
Die Roten managed to beat competition from Arsenal to sign Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt for €55 million. The defending Bundesliga champions have bolstered their midfield options by signing Bara Sapoko Ndiaye on a permanent deal. The youngster impressed Kompany and the club hierarchy during his loan spell last season.
While talking to Ran Sport in the build-up to the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern’s director of sport Max Eberl expressed satisfaction with the way they conducted the transfer business this summer.
“We have strengthened the squad with Nene, Isi and Bara Ndiaye, who was already with us on loan last season. We believe that with the squad we have now put together, we have made the team even more versatile, even deeper, and certainly younger. “
Max Eberl, Director of Sport at Bayern
Eberl is spot on about providing tactical flexibility to Kompany through new signings. Saibari can play in a variety of positions in the attack. The Moroccan can also lead the attack in the absence of Harry Kane.
Nathaniel Brown provides cover in left-back and left-wing positions. The German international can also play in the midfield if needed. Meanwhile, Ndiaye can play in different midfield positions. The 18-year-old will get better by training with the first team and polish the rough edges of his game. He is a signing for now and the future.
From a financial perspective, Bayern managed to get Saibari and Brown for fairly decent fees. Considering how inflated the transfer market has been this summer, it is good to see Bayern work in a sustainable manner. They are likely to recoup almost 50% of the money spent this summer through departures.
After delivering an efficient summer transfer window, Eberl is set to be rewarded with a new contract. He has already received public appreciation from Uli Hoeness, a member of Bayern’s supervisory board. The final confirmation on his new contract is likely to arrive at the annual general meeting later this month.
Along with Eberl, Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Christoph Freund will also sign new deals. The club hierarchy learnt lessons from last summer’s chaotic transfer window to deliver a much more serene window this year.
