Former NFLer Jason Kelce is in Augusta this week as part of ESPN\u2019s coverage of the Masters, including serving as a caddie for Akshay Bhatia during the net\u2019s coverage of the Par 3 contest, but it is \u201cbecoming increasingly clear that sports fans are fed up\u201d with Kelce\u2019s presence at non-football events, according to Andrew Hammond of AL.com. ESPN signed Kelce to a multiyear deal after he retired from the NFL in 2024, and it is clear the company \u201cwants to use him as the common man, looking to bring in fans who aren\u2019t usually watching golf.\u201d However, those fans, according to what is being written on social media, \u201care tired of seeing him\u201d (AL.com, 4\/8<\/i><\/a>). HOLLYWOOD REPORTER\u2019s Tony Maglio noted ESPN highlighted Kelce in an \u201ceffort to make its broadcasts and streams of a stuffy golf major championship more enticing.\u201d Donning a full Masters-caddie jumpsuit, Kelce \u201cattempted to fire up the crowd and earn a few yucks.\u201d But Maglio wrote, \u201cNobody wants this. Golf fans want The Masters to be \u2018The Masters.\u2019 … No offense to Kelce, but his act just isn\u2019t cute here\u201d (<\/i>HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, 4\/9<\/i><\/a>).<\/p>\n

DOESN\u2019T FEEL GENUINE<\/b>: SI\u2019s Andy Nesbitt wrote it is \u201cvery hard to find a topic in which everyone agrees upon\u201d on social media. However, that has happened as fans have \u201cvoiced their displeasure of having to sit through segments with Kelce that don\u2019t feel genuine.\u201d Many people feel like his \u201cpresence and vibes have been forced on to a crowd that just wants to sit back enjoy the traditional beauty that is Masters week.\u201d Kelce lately \u201chas become very much like Rob Gronkowski on Fox.\u201d Both guys play these \u201ckind of a wild and zany characters in their new TV roles\u201d because that is the \u201cbrand they\u2019ve put out there.\u201d However, that does not mean that is \u201cwhat large audiences always want or need when they tune into an event that they simply want to sit back and enjoy for a bit\u201d (SI, 4\/9<\/i><\/a>).<\/p>\n

NOT THAT AWESOME<\/b>: Kelce was not the only celeb on ESPN\u2019s airwaves from Augusta, as NEWSWEEK\u2019s Matthew Couden noted ESPN\u2019s Laura Rutledge spoke with WWE\u2019s Mike \u201cThe Miz\u201d Mizanin from the course on Thursday. WrestleMania 42 is coming up this month, and it \u201cmakes sense for ESPN to do some cross-promotion.\u201d However, an X user posted a screenshot\u202fof Mizanin\u2019s appearance alongside Rutledge with the statement \u201cWHAT ARE WE DOING?! Nothing matters anymore.\u201d Couden noted many other X users \u201cagreed with those sentiments,\u201d taking to the comments to \u201cshare their disappointment and strong criticism of ESPN for including the various celebrity guests at this year\u2019s tournament\u201d (NEWSWEEK, 4\/9<\/i><\/a>).<\/p>\n

A TIME AND PLACE FOR EVERYTHING<\/b>: ESPN using people like Kelce, the Miz and Kevin Hart during Masters coverage was discussed on Thursday\u2019s episode of \u201cThe Dan Le Batard Show,\u201d with Chris Cote saying, \u201cGet away from my Masters. I\u2019m the biggest hijinks guy that there is. Not with the Masters.\u201d Mike Ryan Ruiz said, \u201cHow about for the Masters, we show some golf?\u201d Jonathan Zaslow said, \u201cClearly The Miz is on the Masters because WrestleMania is next weekend and there\u2019s a very strong push to sell the ESPN app and WWE on ESPN. But I\u2019ve got to be perfectly honest: Is the demo for the Masters the demo that\u2019s going to enjoy WrestleMania?\u201d Dan Le Batard: \u201cThis is the future of sports entertainment. These are the people who run sports now. Don\u2019t be precious about your Bert Kreischers in your Netflix outfield on Opening Day.\u201d Ruiz: \u201cI don\u2019t mind the hacks that they\u2019re taking. Honestly, there is an audience for that. It\u2019s the Masters — if any golf event is going to get casual viewers that\u2019d be in with a sit-down with Kevin Hart, it\u2019s this.
