It isn\u2019t a coincidence that Ohio State<\/a><\/strong> is a yearly powerhouse in college football. During an appearance on the Not Just Football <\/em>podcast<\/a>, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day<\/a><\/strong> revealed the program\u2019s lofty recruiting standards.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I think it\u2019s just across the board at Ohio State, there\u2019s an expectation that when you come here, you\u2019re coming to be a first or second-rounder, regardless of your position,\u201d Day said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s it. If we don\u2019t win games and championships, they\u2019re gonna find a new coach. Well, if you\u2019re not a first or second-rounder, this probably isn\u2019t the right place for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Day\u2019s incredible demand for talent has translated to the win column. During his tenure, Day has led Ohio State to a 82-12 overall record and a 55-5 mark in conference play.<\/p>\n

Moreover, he\u2019s guided Ohio State to two Big Ten titles and the 2024 National Championship. Amid his success, Day has maintained his recruiting standards.<\/p>\n

Ohio State has had a top-five recruiting class each year since 2020, and isn\u2019t showing any signs of slowing. The program boasts the No. 3 recruiting class in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings.<\/p>\n

Ryan Day not only expects his high school recruits to possess elite talent, but his transfer portal pickups as well. Ohio State has repeatedly proven the importance of the transfer portal, with additions such as quarterback Will Howard<\/a><\/strong>, who led Ohio State\u2019s offense during its national championship run.<\/p>\n

This offseason, Ohio State added numerous standout transfers, including Duke<\/a><\/strong> safety Terry Moore<\/a><\/strong> and Northwestern<\/a><\/strong> tight end Hunter Welching<\/a><\/strong>. Perhaps the pair can hear their names called at an NFL Draft<\/a><\/strong> soon.<\/p>\n

After all, In\u00a0USA Today\u2019s latest mock projections\u00a0for the 2026 NFL Draft, Ohio State is projected to have four players selected within the first 10 picks: linebacker Arvell Reese<\/a><\/strong>, safety Caleb Downs<\/a><\/strong>, linebacker Sonny Styles<\/a><\/strong> and wide receiver Carnell Tate<\/a><\/strong>. It\u2019s not a stretch to assume several players from Ohio State\u2019s 2026 roster will follow suit.<\/p>\n

For now, Ryan Day is simply focused on building a cohesive unit from all the talent at his disposal. He discussed this challenge last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a bunch of guys coming in off the street that we don\u2019t know,\u201d Day said. \u201cObviously, there\u2019s been relationships built. Doesn\u2019t guarantee anything, but it\u2019s not just random. I think that\u2019s intentional, but there\u2019s no question that these guys haven\u2019t played for the Buckeyes before.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s guys in that group right there that have scars here, that have had success here, and there\u2019s a lot of guys that haven\u2019t played one snap here yet. All that comes in, into play this season.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
