Ty Pennington may just be the host of \u201cRock the Block,\u201d but that doesn\u2019t stop him from having strong opinions about the designs he sees on the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery season, I go in, and of course, I\u2019m like, \u2018Are you guys sure you wanna–?\u2019 I\u2019ll either be like, \u2018Hey, can we talk on the side for a second?\u2019 I\u2019ll just be like, \u2018Look, I\u2019ve tried what you\u2019re trying, and like, I have to say, is there another option?\u2019\u201d he told PauseRewind reporter Sabra Satz-Kojis. But often, there isn\u2019t another option, because \u201cRock the Block\u201d is a competition show with strict time limits and sometimes the competitors just don\u2019t have enough time to come up with something new.<\/p>\n

Pennington has tried to lend his design expertise to cast members on the show, but they don\u2019t always listen. \u201cThere are other times that, and I\u2019ll specifically say this season, that I\u2019ve walked in and said, \u2018Hey guys, this looks a little empty. I think something needs to be there,\u2019\u201d he explained. \u201cBut that particular design team did it on purpose. And at first, I was like, this is a mistake. And later on, I realized, it was a bold move that they intentionally didn\u2019t put something there.\u201d<\/p>\n

That experience taught the former \u201cExtreme Makeover: Home Edition\u201d host something important about his job. \u201cThat made me realize, maybe I should shut up and let them do their thing,\u201d he said. “Because I realized we all got our own artistic sort of statements sometimes it\u2019s great to just let someone find their path and show you what they thought was really unique.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alright, so Pennington clearly has his opinions about the designs on \u201cRock the Block.\u201d So why doesn\u2019t he just jump in and compete on a season?<\/p>\n

\u201cAt some point, I will even have to compete,\u201d Pennington admitted. \u201cBut I really hope it doesn\u2019t come down to it because I\u2019m way too competitive. And I cheat. That\u2019s probably why they\u2019ve never asked me.\u201d<\/p>\n
