Lin-Manuel Miranda<\/a> has announced<\/a> the cast of\u00a0Octet<\/em>, his upcoming film based on the Dave Malloy<\/a> musical of the same name.\u00a0<\/p>\n Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!<\/em>) will play Jessica, with newly minted Olivier winner<\/a>\u00a0Rachel Zegler<\/a> (Evita<\/em>) as Velma, Emmy winner\u00a0Sheryl Lee Ralph<\/a> (Abbott Elementary<\/em>) as Paula, Phillipa Soo<\/a> (Hamilton<\/em>) as Karly, Tony winner Jonathan Groff<\/a> (Merrily We Roll Along<\/em>) as Henry, Emmy winner Tramell Tillman<\/a> (Severance<\/em>)\u00a0as Marvin, Paul-Jordan Jansen<\/a> (Sweeney Todd<\/a><\/em>)\u00a0as Ed, and\u00a0Gaten Matarazzo<\/a> (Stranger Things<\/em>) as Toby (not the first time he’s played a character named Toby\u2014see the 2023 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd<\/em>).<\/p>\n The a cappella musical follows a group of strangers in a support group for internet addicts.\u00a0Octet <\/em>premiered in 2019 at Off-Broadway’s Signature Theatre.\u00a0<\/p>\n Composer Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812<\/em>) is writing the screenplay and will also serve as executive producer. “I am over the moon that Lin-Manuel is turning Octet <\/em>into a movie!” he said in a previous statement. “I was utterly gobsmacked by his work on tick, tick…BOOM!, <\/em>and feel so honored to have such a beacon of the musical theatre world bring this piece into a new life. As a brilliant storyteller, fellow internet junkie, and dear friend, I know he’s going to make something amazing. And our cast is completely ridiculous.” Miranda’s 5000 Broadway Productions is producing.<\/p>\n Said Miranda in a previous statement: “I haven\u2019t stopped thinking about Octet<\/em> since I saw Annie Tippe<\/a>\u2019s premiere production in November of 2019. Dave Malloy\u2019s score is versatile, brilliant, and grows more relevant with each passing year. It won\u2019t leave me alone so here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n Octet <\/em>the film will also be produced by John Skidmore for Best Kept Secret Productions, and Luis Miranda<\/a>. Executive producers are Johnny Holland, Owen Panettieri, and Diana DiMenna.
