But in real life, it was Plumb who had the inside connection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIn my real life, my father had signed the Monkees to RCA in his job,\u201d Plumb told the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dcLCnVyneG8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Pop Culture Preservation Society;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Pop Culture Preservation Society<\/a> in a new interview. \u201cAnd so I would go and listen to the Monkees record, and Davy Jones used to say, \u2018Well you know I&#8217;m going to I&#8217;m going to marry you when you grow up.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Plumb reiterated that there was nothing creepy about Jones\u2019s comment, noting it was \u201cfine\u201d at the time. She even dished that her pre-teen self didn\u2019t rule out a future marriage to the \u201cDaydream Believer\u201d singer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cYou know, sort of like it seemed like a possibility,\u201d she laughed. \u201cYou know, you don&#8217;t know at 10 or 12, you don&#8217;t know how your life is going to be. You have no, you know, you want to grow up, but there&#8217;s no idea. In the 1960s, he helped discover the Carpenters\u00a0after spotting them at a \u201cBattle of the Bands\u201d contest. In an interview with <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/transcripts\/120760959\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:NPR;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">NPR<\/a>, <strong>Richard Carpenter<\/strong> recalled his first meeting with the A&amp; R man. \u201cHis name was Neely Plumb \u2013 P-L-U-M-B, and I knew that name anyway because \u2026 I looked for credits, songwriter credits, producers, all that stuff on records that I\u2019d buy. \u2026I knew his name. And he wanted to know if we were interested in recording.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In the new interview, Plumb said of her father, \u201cHe signed the Jefferson Airplane, too.
