The Last Jedi<\/em> is arguably Star Wars\u2019 most polarising project, but The Acolyte <\/em>definitely occupies second place.<\/p>\n

This 2024 Disney Plus series landed to an incredibly mixed response, although perhaps undeservingly so.<\/p>\n

The Acolyte<\/em> differs from many other Star Wars<\/a> projects, having taken fans to the era of The High Republic which had never before been explored in a live-action setting.<\/p>\n

While Yoda appeared in a brief finale cameo, the series introduced us to new characters, including dual leads Mae and Osha portrayed by Amandla Stenberg.<\/p>\n

There will, of course, have been some viewers who simply didn\u2019t enjoy what The Acolyte<\/em> had to offer – and that\u2019s fine.<\/p>\n

Disney Plus<\/cite><\/div>\n

Sadly, however, many directed hatred towards Stenberg, abhorrently criticising her for being a biracial, female lead in a franchise as enormous as Star Wars.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, the overblown negativity surrounding the series mixed with average ratings compared to production budget lead to the series\u2019 cancellation after just one season.<\/p>\n

Since then, dedicated The Acolyte<\/em> fans have campaigned hard for Lucasfilm to make a U-turn on their decision – and their hard work might be paying off.<\/p>\n

As spotted<\/a> by CBR, The Acolyte<\/em> has re-emerged in Disney Plus\u2019 Top 10 TV Shows chart for no apparent reason.<\/p>\n

Maul – Shadow Lord<\/em> Is Generating Renewed Interest In The Acolyte<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Two years after it debuted, The Acolyte<\/em> was recently spotted occupying the ninth position on the list.<\/p>\n

This perhaps could be due to the current rollout of Maul – Shadow Lord<\/em> which occupied the top TV spot and top overall spot on the streaming service yesterday, 22 April.<\/p>\n

This doesn\u2019t immediately mean that we should expect The Acolyte<\/em> to suddenly secure a renewal, but it\u2019s undoubtedly a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n

Maul – Shadow Lord <\/em>is performing incredibly well and if fans of that series are also seeking out The Acolyte,<\/em> it may be proof that The Acolyte<\/em> was simply launched at the wrong time amid too much noise and franchise fatigue.<\/p>\n

If its following is steadily building, the incentive is there for Lucasfilm and Disney to revisit it.<\/p>\n

Heck, I\u2019m sure fans would even settle for a one-off film launched directly on Disney Plus tying up all of the loose threads.<\/p>\n

How did Qimir find the Knights of Ren? What happened between Qimir and Vernestra? And for heaven\u2019s sake, please finally tell us the tale of Darth Plagueis The Wise.<\/p>\n

The series\u2019 comeback on Disney Plus has rekindled hope in the #RenewTheAcolyte movement on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not surprising. It was a really good show,\u201d remarked<\/a> one Twitter\/X user.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s because it\u2019s good. Worth the rewatch and deserved a second season,\u201d added another while someone joked, \u201cSomehow, The Acolyte<\/em> returned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Star Wars Celebration isn\u2019t set to return until next year but this summer will see the biannual D23 be held, running from 14 to 16 August.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s here that Disney will outline its plans for the next couple of years, so if you want to hear about a shock renewal of The Acolyte,<\/em> you better keep watching it.<\/p>\n
