BALTIMORE \u2014 Zoila Guerra Sandoval, 48, remembers making “frijoles blancos,” white beans, the day before the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed<\/a> in Baltimore in 2024.<\/p>\n

She had just spoken with Jos\u00e9 Mynor L\u00f3pez about the usual things \u2014 like when their daughter should be picked up from school. Mynor L\u00f3pez, her co-parent and friend, joked that she should bring him some of the beans; she told him to swing by her house. But he had to go work his overnight road maintenance shift.<\/p>\n

“That is how we left it. In the morning my brothers were calling me” to ask about him, Guerra Sandoval recalled in an interview with NPR this week.<\/p>\n
