Kennedy Jr., were no match for the couple\u2019s stunning good looks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at Carolyn in real life, she\u2019s incredibly beautiful. She looked very different in the series. It\u2019s weird,\u201d fashion designer Gordon Henderson told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were closer with John, but \u2026 those two were really good looking people, said Henderson, 69.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fashion designer Gordon Henderson said the stars of \u201cLove Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. &amp; Carolyn Bessette\u201d did not do his late friends justice in the looks department. <span class=\"credit\">FX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And he was looking for the remote after just 30 minutes, fuming that Hollywood \u201calways gets it wrong\u201d when trying to mimic his late friends \u2014 who were played in the series by actors Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just thought it was not done well. I only watched one half of the first episode and said, \u2018It\u2019s not going to be good,&#8217;\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really don\u2019t like to watch stories about<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/21\/entertainment\/carolyn-bessette-kennedys-pal-and-colorist-has-brutal-take-on-love-story\/\"> John and Carolyn <\/a>because they always got it wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Henderson, who worked at Calvin Klein in the \u201980s after graduation from the Parsons School of Design, was portrayed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/21\/entertainment\/these-are-the-top-10-most-played-songs-on-the-love-story-soundtrack\/\">FX and Hulu series<\/a> by actor Omari K. Chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>But he never saw himself immortalized \u2014 since he didn\u2019t get through the first episode.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/21\/entertainment\/college-classmate-of-carolyn-bessette-kennedy-found-it-difficult-to-watch-love-story\/\">In the show, Bessette<\/a> and Henderson work at Calvin Klein at the same time, which never happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know her then,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Henderson lived in the West Village and Bessette could frequently be found hanging out in his bedroom. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A native of Berkeley, Calif., Henderson first met Bessette through her on-and-off boyfriend Will Regan, who owned the Manhattan nightclub Rex.<\/p>\n<p>They became dear friends, and Bessette could frequently be found at his West Village apartment on 11th and West Fourth Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of my memories of Carolyn is on my bed, with a big sweater of mine on. When I went to her apartment on Sixth Avenue, I said, \u2018This is where all my sweaters are! Jesus Christ. Can I take them back?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Henderson met Bessette through the man she dated on and off, nightclub owner Will Regan.  <span class=\"credit\">Patrick McMullan via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She found sanctuary in his bedroom \u2014 and would even invite her friends there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe would sit there and just talk to them. And I said to her one time, \u2018Why do you have your friends come over to my bedroom?\u2019 and she\u2019s like, \u2018Cause it\u2019s my favorite place.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They were so close that JFK Jr. asked Henderson, who by then had launched his own label, to design his wedding suit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe could have gone to any designer \u2026 The reason he asked me is because they wanted to keep the wedding secret,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>In \u201cLove Story,\u201d Henderson, played by Omari K. Chancellor, left, was portrayed as Bessette\u2019s Calvin Klein co-worker, but the designer said they never worked together there. <span class=\"credit\">Eric Liebowitz<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The groom made sure to honor his father\u2019s favorite color with his ensemble. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s why everything was navy blue. That was very important to him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Henderson also made the keepsake \u2014 navy blue charmeuse boxer shorts \u2014 for his best man, his cousin Anthony Radziwill, and groomsmen, which had their initials on one side and JFK\u2019s on the other.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The guest list for Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jr.\u2019s wedding was limited to 50 people. <span class=\"credit\">PEOPLE<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Kennedy and Bessette\u2019s wedding guest list included only 50 of their closest family and friends \u2014 and Henderson snagged an invite.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was beautiful. The thing that was really nice is that everyone kept it a secret,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>For the celebration, guests first flew to Jacksonville, Fla., and from there took a boat to Cumberland Island, GA, where the rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception took place.<\/p>\n<p>In the series, Bessette arrived late to the wedding, which was factual.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe was always late,\u201d Henderson said.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>In \u201cLove Story,\u201d Bessette was late to her wedding, which Henderson said was factual.  <span class=\"credit\">FX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After Henderson dressed the men, he went to check on the bride.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe said, \u2018Can you help me put the dress on?\u2019 I said, \u2018Now, this is going to be really hard to do because you should have done this before you put your makeup on and got your hair done,&#8217;\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo we went in the bathroom, closed the door, and I had to shimmy this f\u2013king dress all the way down.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The last time Henderson saw Bessette was the day before she died.   <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The reception was under a tent, \u201cand there were five tables with 10 people at each one.
