Alex Fitzpatrick isn\u2019t just here to take part. <\/strong><\/p>\nAt the start of his PGA Tour career, he\u2019s taking over. Ok, that might be a slight exaggeration, but who saw this coming from the brother of the world number four, Matt Fitzpatrick?<\/p>\n
Alex Fitzpatrick earned his PGA Tour card playing alongside his brother, Matt, at the Zurich Classic. The consensus was that while Alex played his part, Matt was the driving force of that team, and he earned his brother\u2019s card. Can we be so sure now?<\/p>\n
Alex made his Signature Event debut last week at the Cadillac Championship and immediately proved that he\u2019s well within his depth, recording a top 10 finish at Doral. And at this week\u2019s Truist Championship at Quail Hollow, he\u2019s carried that form over. <\/p>\n
Through two rounds, Fitzpatrick is T3 at seven-under par. He\u2019s nine shots better than his brother in the same event, and one behind Tour Championship winner Tommy Fleetwood! <\/p>\n
Speaking after his second round, Fleetwood spoke about how impressed he\u2019s been with the PGA Tour\u2019s newest member. <\/p>\n\n<\/div>

He said, \u201cWell, it\u2019s great. I think he\u2019s on a great run of form. I think he\u2019s put a lot of great work in. I remember playing back in Europe towards the back end of last year and he was, he had struggled up until that point in the year, and his game was clearly coming back.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe had a great finish to the year, he\u2019s continued that on. So his work is paying off. I think it\u2019s an amazing time for him to be playing well, feel confident, have that work paying off for him with great results. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt just shows, you know, like, wherever you are, if you\u2019re playing good golf and you\u2019re playing to the level you want to play at, you can compete on any given week. So it\u2019s great to see him and Pete doing so well, and it\u2019s a great start to his PGA TOUR career, if you like and, yeah, happy for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Another good result this week and we may start to view him very differently ahead of next week\u2019s PGA Championship. <\/p>\n
Where Alex Fitzpatrick has excelled on the PGA Tour<\/h2>\n Matt Fitzpatrick said the area where his brother has most improved in recent years is his driving, and that has certainly shown up on the PGA Tour. It\u2019s perhaps the most important area of the game on the tour, and Alex has been exceptional off the tee.\u00a0<\/p>\n
At Doral, he gained 1.27 strokes to the field off the tee, which was the biggest factor in his top 10 finish. But what also impressed was his ball striking. <\/p>\n
He gained 1.06 strokes on approach to the green, showing off his impressive iron play, and that has continued at Quail Hollow. Fitzpatrick currently leads the Truist field in Strokes Gained: Approach, gaining 2.33 to the field. <\/p>\n
Fitzpatrick was poor on the greens in round two, ranking in the bottom 20 in putting. If he were even average with his flatstick, he could be leading the tournament. <\/p>\n
But he\u2019s set up well for the weekend, as he eyes the top of the leaderboard. <\/p>\n
