Netflix shared today that the inimitable, award-winning actress <strong>Bette Midler<\/strong> will be voicing the Fairy Godmother in\u00a0<em><strong>Steps<\/strong><\/em>, its upcoming musical animated feature that puts a fresh twist on the story of\u00a0<em>Cinderella<\/em>. Marking the first film to be fully produced in-house within Netflix Animation Studios,\u00a0<em>Steps<\/em> is due to launch on the streamer later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe beloved Fairy Godmother, the wholesome Fairy Godmother, the one with all the good intentions, has been around for a long, long time. This particular version of the Fairy Godmother has good intentions, but she\u2019s a little bit of a bumbler and she\u2019s a little bit of a schemer,\u201d Midler shared in the announcement. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be part of this film! And I\u2019m thrilled to be with this cast!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Golden Globe, Grammy, Emmy, Tony and BAFTA-winning actress (and two-time Oscar nominee) joins two-time Emmy winner\u00a0<strong>Ali Wong<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Beef,\u00a0<\/em><em>Tuca &amp; Bertie<\/em>) and Oscar nominee <strong>Stephanie Hsu\u00a0<\/strong>(<em>Everything Everywhere All at Once, The Second Best Hospital in the Galaxy<\/em>) as the tale\u2019s notorious stepsisters, and Oscar-nominated, Golden Globe and Emmy winner <strong>Amanda Seyfried<\/strong>\u00a0(<em>Mank, The Dropout<\/em>) as Cinderella.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>Synopsis:<\/strong> Think you know Cinderella\u2019s \u201cevil\u201d stepsisters? Think again. Sick of living in Cinderella\u2019s shadow, Lilith (Ali Wong) steals the Fairy Godmother (Bette Midler)\u2019s magic wand and hijacks the Royal Ball with her sister Margot (Stephanie Hsu), breaking the Cinderella story as we know it and dooming the kingdom to the tyrannical rule of Priscilla, a villainous schemer who swoops in and snatches the throne.
