President Donald Trump says he will recognize Welles Crowther, who lost his life on Sept. 11, 2001, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.<\/p>\n

Crowther, a Boston College alum, died as he helped people escape the World Trade Center\u2019s South Tower after it was hit by a hijacked airplane.<\/p>\n

Crowther\u00a0wore a red bandana<\/a>\u00a0on his face, which is on display at the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Every September, BC honors Crowther with a red bandana game, and it holds a 5K in his memory every October.<\/p>\n

Trump announced that he was giving Crowther America’s highest civilian honor during a speech in Crowther’s native Rockland County, New York, on Friday. He called Crowther\u2019s mother to the stage after announcing the award.<\/p>\n
