Thompson\u2019s death more than two decades after it was ruled a suicide, the agency said Tuesday in a <a href=\"https:\/\/cbi.colorado.gov\/news-article\/cbi-conducting-case-review-into-death-of-hunter-s-thompson\" target=\"_blank\">news release<\/a>.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmg7bu1ap00073b6ntbsjusn7@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Thompson died at his home in Woody Creek, Colorado, outside of Aspen, on February 20, 2005, of \u201can alleged self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.\u201d He was 67 years old.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmg7bu1ap00083b6n2w52wrxr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The renewed investigation comes at the suggestion of the Pitkin County Sheriff\u2019s Office, which received a request from the gonzo journalist\u2019s wife, Anita Thompson, according to the CBI.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmg7bu1ap00093b6n00cuo3n6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            \u201cWe understand the profound impact Hunter S.
