{"id":78291,"date":"2026-01-08T04:07:13","date_gmt":"2026-01-08T07:07:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ubirataonline.com.br\/motions-filed-ahead-of-rapper-ynw-mellys-re-trial-for-double-homicide\/"},"modified":"2026-01-08T04:07:13","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T07:07:13","slug":"motions-filed-ahead-of-rapper-ynw-mellys-re-trial-for-double-homicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ubirataonline.com.br\/en\/motions-filed-ahead-of-rapper-ynw-mellys-re-trial-for-double-homicide\/","title":{"rendered":"Motions filed ahead of rapper YNW Melly\u2019s re-trial for double homicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 Rapper YNW Melly was in court Monday at which time a number of motions were filed in preparation for his re-trial on double murder charges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2026\/01\/05\/rapero-ynw-melly-comparece-en-corte-antes-de-nuevo-juicio-por-doble-asesinato\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/espanol\/2026\/01\/05\/rapero-ynw-melly-comparece-en-corte-antes-de-nuevo-juicio-por-doble-asesinato\/\"><b>Leer en espa\u00f1ol<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The hearing in Fort Lauderdale lasted only about an hour or so. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, watched as state prosecutors and the defense went over a number of motions filed to see what will be admissible for Demons\u2019 re-trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Demons in accused of murdering Christopher \u201cYNW Juvy\u201d Thomas and Anthony \u201cYNW Sakchaser\u201d Williams &#8212; both childhood friends &#8212; back in October 2018 after a late-night recording session and then allegedly made it look like a drive-by shooting. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Melly\u2019s co-defendant, Cortland \u201cBortland\u201d Henry, is accused of driving the Jeep Compass where the duo were killed in and helping to cover up the murders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Melly\u2019s first trial ended in a mistrial in 2023 after the 12-member panel could not reach a unanimous verdict after three days of deliberations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The trial consisted of many twist and turns that included allegations of witness tampering, passing messages in jail and alleged plans to escape. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">All issues were brought before the judge Monday to see what would be permitted to use in his new trial.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Demons faces a number of charges that include two counts of premeditated first-degree murder and witness tampering.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He is expected back in court Monday, Jan. 12, at 8:45<b> <\/b>a.m., where the judge will hear additional motions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Demons\u2019 trial in the witness tampering case is scheduled to begin Jan. 21 and his re-trial in the double homicide case is scheduled for January 2027.<\/p>\n<div class=\"b-article-body__html\">\n<div class=\"l10-neighborhood\" role=\"complementary\" aria-label=\"News From Your Neighborhood\">\n<p>&#x1f3e0; News From Your Neighborhood<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-article-body__copyright\">Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com &#8211; All rights reserved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/local\/2026\/01\/05\/motions-filed-ahead-of-rapper-ynw-mellys-re-trial-for-double-homicide\/\">Source link <\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2014 Rapper YNW Melly was in court Monday at which time a number of motions were filed in preparation for his re-trial on double murder charges.
