IN THOSE DOCUMENTS, THEY SAY THE YOUNGER DIETZ SHOT HIS FATHER, 42 YEAR OLD DOUGLAS DIETZ, JUST HOURS AFTER HE AND CLAYTON\u2019S MOTHER SANG CLAYTON HAPPY BIRTHDAY. JUST AFTER MIDNIGHT. DOUGLAS AND HIS WIFE ADOPTED CLAYTON IN 2018, ACCORDING TO COURT DOCUMENTS THAT ALSO SAY DOUGLAS CAME TO BED AFTER HIS WIFE. THE AFFIDAVIT SAYS SHE WAS WOKEN UP BY A LOUD BOOM AND TRIED WAKING DOUGLAS UP, BUT HE WAS UNRESPONSIVE. SHE LATER TOLD POLICE, CLAYTON SAID TO HER, QUOTE, I KILLED MY DAD. I HATE MYSELF. WHEN POLICE WENT TO TALK TO CLAYTON, TROOPERS NOTICED A LARGE BRUISE ABOVE HIS LEFT EYE AND A CUT ON HIS BOTTOM LIP. THE DOCUMENTS SAY CLAYTON ADMITTED HIS DAD TOLD HIM TO GO TO BED. HE WAS MAD AT THAT AND DIDN\u2019T THINK ABOUT WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER PULLING THE TRIGGER. FIRST THING I THINK EVERYBODY THINKS IS HOW. HOW DOES SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPEN? I SPOKE WITH CUMBERLAND COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY SEAN MCCORMACK ON THE PHONE, WHO SAYS HE\u2019S NEVER DEALT WITH A CASE WITH SOMEONE SO YOUNG BEFORE. IF SOMEONE IS A IS A JUVENILE, EVEN EVEN DOWN TO 11 YEARS OLD, AND THEY COMMIT A MURDER AND YOU CHARGE THEM, YOU HAVE NO CHOICE. YOU HAVE TO CHARGE THEM AS AN ADULT. HE SAYS FOR A CASE LIKE THIS, THE NEXT STEP IS THE JUVENILE TRIES TO DECERTIFY THE CASE FROM ADULT COURT TO JUVENILE COURT. WHAT YOU\u2019RE LOOKING FOR IS A COUPLE THINGS. ONE, PROTECTION OF SOCIETY IS BALANCED AGAINST THE THE JUVENILES ABILITY TO BE REHABILITATED IN THE JUVENILE SYSTEM. WGAL News 8 obtained court documents that reveal new details about what happened the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 13, in Duncannon Borough. Father shot to death, police sayOfficers responded to a home on South Market Street around 3:20 a.m. for an “unresponsive male” and found Douglas Dietz, 42, dead from a gunshot wound to the head, according to the documents. Douglas was found in his bed in the bedroom he shares with his wife, which is connected to their son’s bedroom by a closet, according to the affidavit. ‘I killed Daddy,’ court docs sayAfter investigating, police identified Douglas’ 11-year-old son, Clayton Dietz, as the suspect. According to the court documents, Douglas’ wife told police she was asleep when a loud noise woke her, and she smelled something similar to fireworks. She said she tried to nudge Douglas, but he didn\u2019t move. She then heard what she thought was water dripping, but when she turned on the light, she realized it was blood, according to the documents. Police said Clayton then entered the bedroom and shouted, “Daddy\u2019s dead.” Troopers at the scene also said they heard Clayton tell his mother, “I killed Daddy.” Officials noted that Douglas and his wife adopted Clayton in 2018.
