SAN JOSE, Calif. \u2014 Revenge is in the eye of the beholder.<\/p>\n

The Seattle Seahawks can finally settle a Super Bowl score with the New England Patriots, who snatched the Lombardi Trophy out of their beaks almost dozen years ago with one the most dramatic defensive stands<\/a> in pro football history.<\/p>\n

To this day, New England cornerback Malcolm Butler\u2019s<\/a> goal line interception in 2015 <\/a>remains an open wound for Seattle fans. The Seahawks were just feet away from scoring a winning touchdown when Butler stepped in front of a Russell Wilson pass for an interception that sealed a 28-24 New England win<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n

The retired Butler has been floating around the Bay Area all week, as if he\u2019s haunting Seattle as the ghost of Super Bowl past.<\/p>\n

Butler, 35, said he\u2019s reminded of that play every day because he still has the truck gifted to him by teammate Tom Brady<\/a>. The all-time great quarterback won that Chevy for being named that year\u2019s Super Bowl MVP.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I go take my trash out and stuff like that, I look at my Tom Brady truck and I\u2019m like, \u2018Man you did some amazing thing.\u2019\u201d Butler said in an interview posted Friday<\/a> on the Patriots\u2019 website. \u201cIt\u2019s not a truck, it\u2019s a trophy. Yeah, I still got it now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Present-day Seahawks appreciate the history of that play, but players and coaches insist they\u2019re out to lift the Lombardi Trophy for themselves on Sunday \u2014 and not to heal any lasting Emerald City trauma.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe haven\u2019t talked about [the Butler pick] once,\u201d Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said. \u201cAnd it\u2019s not due to lack of respect for our team and our history and what we\u2019ve done in the past. But we\u2019re really focused on this game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seattle linebacker Patrick O\u2019Connell, a Montana native, also downplayed the significance of a Super Bowl rematch with New England. But in the same breath, he said he could instantly recall where he watched that 2015 game, the weather that day and his postgame emotions before calling the Seahawks \u201cwe\u201d as a childhood fan<\/a> of his future employer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was with one of my best friends,\u201d O\u2019Connell told NBC News this week. \u201cWe were in his basement [in Kalispell, Montana] watching and it was snowy and icy [outside].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to make sure I was driving home carefully because I was mad about the interception happening,\u201d O\u2019Connell joked.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would say for the fans, it\u2019s probably a quote-unquote \u2018revenge\u2019 game. For us [current players], it\u2019s so long ago, we\u2019re not even thinking about that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yakima, Washington, native and Seahawks receiver Cooper Kupp was a little fuzzy about where he watched the famed Butler pick, but it still made a lasting impression.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was such an incredible play and moment in Super Bowl history,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be remembered for a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
