Barry Josephson<\/a>, a producer of the Fox show \u201cBones,\u201d if he knew of any \u201camazing women\u201d in their early 20s who would be available in New York.<\/p>\n\n\t\u201cI have \u2018the\u2019 girl,\u201d Josephson wrote back. \u201cYoung, attractive, insane rack.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHe added that the woman was \u201csmart, although not a genius, but very efficient, will do anything, and tight lipped period end of story.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tEpstein had by that point already pleaded guilty and served time for child prostitution. But he maintained a wide circle of powerful friends, as revealed in a massive trove of records released by the Justice Department on Jan. 30.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn Hollywood, he was especially close with Josephson, a former Columbia Pictures executive who has produced several films and TV shows, including 2025\u2019s \u201cKiss of the Spider Woman.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to emails that are now public, the two men continued to see each other as late as 2018, just a year before Epstein died in prison while facing federal trafficking charges.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI knew nothing about him,\u201d Josephson said in a brief interview with Variety<\/em> on Feb. 2. \u201cYou learn more and you distance yourself completely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\tThe messages show that Josephson was certainly aware of many of the allegations by 2016 \u2014 when James Patterson published an expos\u00e9 titled \u201cFilthy Rich\u201d \u2014 and that he did not believe them. Asked when he had distanced himself, Josephson said, \u201cI don\u2019t want to talk about it really at all\u201d and hung up.<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to the messages, Epstein and Josephson relied on each other for favors and advice. Josephson would arrange set visits for young women in Epstein\u2019s circle, and would sometimes try to help with auditions. Epstein provided Josephson with personal loans. In 2011, Epstein lent him $120,000, which was repaid. Two years later, he helped Josephson cover a $215,000 tax bill.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cI am overwhelmed by your friendship,\u201d wrote Josephson after paying back the second loan.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe subject of young women was a constant theme in their correspondence. In February 2013, Epstein asked if Josephson knew of any actresses who wanted to ride on his jet to Los Angeles with a \u201cbunch of Hollywood types.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ll check :)\u201d was the reply. When Epstein arrived in L.A., Josephson said he was \u201ccasting girls for my pilot on Monday if he wants to stop by my office :)\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tEpstein insisted on getting certain young women cast in projects and was frustrated when Josephson couldn\u2019t deliver. The producer had to explain that it wasn\u2019t that easy.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThe whole auditioning process is brutal, it\u2019s harsh, it\u2019s filled with disappointment,\u201d he wrote, explaining that it was an uphill fight to cast his own wife in a small part on \u201cBones.\u201d He apologized profusely that he could not do more, saying he would \u201cdo anything to make amends.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tJosephson envied Epstein \u2014 \u201cI want one week a year of your life!\u201d \u2014 and sought at times to leverage the connection into a studio job.<\/p>\n
\n\tJosephson also offered Epstein a sympathetic ear. After getting out of prison in 2009, Epstein still faced civil litigation from his victims. In 2015, he came to Josephson with an idea for a movie \u2014 \u201ca fictionalized account of what happens to people falsely accused,\u201d which would be inspired by the Bill Cosby and Duke rape cases.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cFew willing to stand up and say these girls are liars,\u201d Epstein wrote, adding that the film could be shot on jets, yachts and islands, and feature \u201cbeut girls\u201d among the \u201cone percent.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tJosephson offered to make the film through his company, and suggested Epstein\u2019s investment could be kept secret. He recommended that Epstein watch \u201cAbsence of Malice,\u201d a film about journalistic corruption.<\/p>\n
\n\tEpstein wrote back that he was willing to fund the project. He saw it as \u201ca fun idea\u201d \u2014 with fake detectives and \u201chidden videos of girls (scheming) to get rich \u2013 the blair bitch project.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cCertainly the side of the coin NOT covered by news outlets,\u201d Josephson replied.<\/p>\n
\n\tA year later, Patterson published his 400-page book, subtitled \u201cA Powerful Billionaire, the Sex Scandal That Undid Him, and All the Justice That Money Can Buy.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cAll of these authors are \u2018whores for headlines\u2019!\u201d Josephson told Epstein. \u201cYou should hire one to write the tell all deception and distortion of the legal system and the girl who lied and deceived to make a quick buck.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tEpstein replied that he was considering it. A few days later, Josephson wrote: \u201cFuck that book!\u201d and inquired, \u201cYou ok?\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tUpdate, Feb. 6:<\/strong> Josephson has issued a statement.<\/p>\n\n\t\u201cThere\u2019s no excuse for what I said in some of my emails. The language was crude and juvenile, and I\u2019m ashamed. While I did attend social events with Epstein, and he did visit my sets twice, I never traveled with him on his plane, visited his island, or saw him in the company of minors. In my\u00a047 years working in the entertainment industry, I\u2019ve encountered thousands of people. My biggest\u00a0regret, bar none, is that I foolishly believed his denials of wrongdoing. I was impressed by his circle of acquaintances from varied industries, and it blinded me.\u00a0I apologize to all who were hurt by this clearly terrible and depraved individual.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
