momentum=\"\"\/>\n<p>NeCastro, 65, plans to step down at the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>The company&#8217;s board of directors will immediately begin the process of identifying his successor, said Matthew Cummings, spokesman for Erie Insurance.<\/p>\n<p>A Gannon University graduate and trained accountant, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2016\/06\/02\/necastro-to-be-new-ceo\/25129927007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2016\/06\/02\/necastro-to-be-new-ceo\/25129927007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">NeCastro was named in 2016<\/a> to replace Terrence Cavanaugh, the only outsider to lead the 100-year-old company.<\/p>\n<p>Erie Insurance, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2025\/02\/11\/top-50-employers-erie-county-pennslyvania\/77717290007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2025\/02\/11\/top-50-employers-erie-county-pennslyvania\/77717290007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ranks as Erie County&#8217;s largest employer<\/a>, has been a member of the Fortune 500 for more than 20 years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/local\/2025\/06\/03\/fortune-500-erie-insurance-ranks-on-2025-list\/84007995007\/\" data-type=\"link\" It&#8217;s to (help) the company get the community out of the gutter.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He said, &#8216;What is the purpose of being the big kid on the block if you can&#8217;t help your community?'&#8221; NeCastro said.<\/p>\n<p>That expanded job description led NeCastro and Erie Insurance to launch what became the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erieddc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Erie Downtown Development Corp.<\/a>, which has invested $150 million in downtown development. It also has led NeCastro into a role as chairman of Infinite Erie&#8217;s board of managers. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/local\/2026\/02\/05\/infinite-erie-playbook-focuses-on-housing-waterfront-development\/88489584007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Infinite Erie was crafted as a playbook for Erie community investment priorities<\/a> that launched in 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Along with his work on local revitalization efforts, NeCastro and his wife, Lisa NeCastro, are also avid supporters of charitable causes. They led the capital campaign to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2024\/07\/11\/erie-pa-experience-childrens-museum-set-to-show-off-renovations\/74337255007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2024\/07\/11\/erie-pa-experience-childrens-museum-set-to-show-off-renovations\/74337255007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">renovate and expand the Experience Children\u2019s Museum<\/a> in 2023, helping to raise $18.5 million for the project. They serve as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2024\/06\/07\/united-way-of-erie-county-receives-donation-for-erie-schools\/73897236007\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/2024\/06\/07\/united-way-of-erie-county-receives-donation-for-erie-schools\/73897236007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">co-chairs for United Way of Erie County\u2019s Uniting for Education endowment campaign<\/a> to support the organization\u2019s Community Schools model.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>&#8220;Tim has led the organization with extraordinary kindness and humility,&#8221; Hagen said in a statement. &#8220;He has been a consistent model for The ERIE\u2019s values \u2014 always putting people and service first. This is more than just a leadership transition \u2014 it marks the closing of a defining chapter in our company\u2019s story.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Hagen continued: &#8220;Beyond his leadership here at The ERIE, Tim has been a tireless advocate for our community. His work as the founding president of the Erie Downtown Development Corporation has brought millions of dollars of investment into the revitalization of our downtown, and his dedication to other organizations and initiatives throughout our city reflect his deep belief in service that extends beyond our company.&#8221;<\/p>\n<partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>In a recent interview, NeCastro said his work with community organizations would continue after his eventual retirement.<\/p>\n<p>In that interview, he said, &#8220;I see my being involved in this community until the day a die. I am never resigning from that role.&#8221;<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"\/>\n<p>A graduate of Cathedral Preparatory School, NeCastro worked at both the accounting firm Ernst &amp; Young and as director of finance for the Erie-based Plastek Group.<\/p>\n<p>He joined Erie Insurance in 1996 and held senior leadership roles in internal audit, finance, product and policy services, and regional field operations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">Centennial celebration: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goerie.com\/story\/news\/local\/2025\/02\/14\/erie-insurance-top-employer-erie-pa-eyes-future-past-celebrates-a-century\/77600475007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Erie Insurance marks 100 years. &#8216;We are not changing who we are&#8217;<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>He reflected on his Erie Insurance career in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Erie Insurance has shaped not only my career, but my life,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I\u2019ve been fortunate to work alongside people who care deeply about one another, about our customers, and about the communities we serve.
