We are working hard to alleviate the disruptions to travelers caused by the Democrats\u2019 shutdown,\u201d a DHS spokesperson told CNN in a statement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmlof5dl00043b6rs314zkgl@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The move was presented as a step to mitigate airport disruptions with the funding standoff in its fourth week.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmlof5dl00053b6rfoae169o@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            On February 22, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2026\/02\/22\/1-week-democrats-shutdown-dhs-implements-emergency-measures-conserve-resources-and\" target=\"_blank\">the department<\/a> announced that it would stop processing Global Entry travelers at participating airports after its funding lapsed on February 14, when lawmakers failed to reach agreement on a spending bill.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmlof5dl00063b6rgj4l9mtu@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            At the time, then-Homeland Security\u202fSecretary\u202fKristi Noem said personnel would be reassigned to focus on the \u201cgeneral traveling population at our airports and ports of entry,\u201d calling it a necessary reallocation of resources. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/02\/22\/politics\/shutdonw-tsa-precheck-global-entry-suspended-hnk\">similar decision<\/a> to suspend domestic program TSA PreCheck was quickly reversed.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmlof5dl00073b6r8lh9q35g@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            The funding lapse stems from a broader dispute over immigration enforcement.\n    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph-elevate inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph_elevate\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cmmlof5dl00083b6rfgon6f12@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">\n            Democrats in Congress have sought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2026\/02\/13\/politics\/immigration-democrat-shutdown-demands-poll\">new restrictions<\/a> on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal immigration agents, including requiring judicial warrants for certain home arrests, mandating visible identification and limiting the use of face coverings during operations. Its more than 13 million members undergo rigorous background checks, interviews and vetting. Suspending it doesn\u2019t just slow lines.
