Matt Fitzpatrick played some very solid golf on day two of the Valspar Championship but he wasn\u2019t sufficiently rewarded for his play.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick posted a second round 69 to follow up his 68 on day one of the Valspar.<\/p>\n

\n

The Englishman is finding some form at just the right time, with some huge events just around the corner.<\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick<\/a> secured a runner-up finish at The Players Championship last week and is right in the mix to win the Valspar Championship heading into the weekend.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s fair to say that Fitzpatrick won a lot of fans at TPC Sawgrass<\/a> last week, due to the grace he showed in defeat to Cam Young.<\/p>\n

The Englishman is not just a really nice man, though. He\u2019s a terrific golfer, and he has proven that consistently throughout the years.<\/p>\n

And because of that, he sometimes falls below his extremely high standards.<\/p>\n

The Englishman is well placed ahead of the weekend in Palm Harbor.<\/p>\n

However, his scores of 69 and 68 during the first two days of the tournament could have been so much better.<\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick was asked to sum up his second round at the Copperhead Course on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Yeah, played well. Just not had any breaks,\u201c<\/em> the Englishman said.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Two bogeys there on the back nine. Missed the fairway on 6 by six inches and got a flier when it didn\u2019t look like a flier. <\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Then on the last there, same thing. Literally somehow it just bounced left up the slope. Missed the fairway by six inches again. And in the semi rough there and got a flier. <\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>So nothing I can do about that. Can\u2019t really control it. But I feel like I\u2019ve been playing well, didn\u2019t feel like it was too stressful out there. So hopefully some luck on the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Just frustrated right now. Just really annoyed that \u2014 I felt like I deserved more out of the round. Yeah, just had those pieces of bad luck to sort of end the round on a sour note, really.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

What Fitzpatrick plans to work on ahead of final two days at the Valspar<\/h2>\n

Fitzpatrick was asked if he plans to practice after his round on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>I\u2019ll just go hit some and then just do some putting and that will be it,\u201c<\/em> the 31-year-old said.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Won\u2019t be too much.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

He then responded when asked what he is working on in his swing right now.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Yeah, just the same stuff I\u2019ve been working on all year, really,\u201c<\/em> Fitzpatrick said.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/em>Just more retraction in my approach play in my shoulders and that\u2019s about it really.\u201c<\/em><\/p>\n

Fitzpatrick can definitely win the Valspar Championship if he tidies up his driving and putting over the weekend.<\/p>\n

He is ranked 60th in strokes gained off the tee and 91st in strokes gained putting during the first two rounds of the Valspar.<\/p>\n

So it\u2019s obvious to see where he needs to improve.<\/p>\n
