BroadwayHD is livestreaming Roundabout Theatre Company’s Broadway revival of Fallen Angels June 5.
The play (currently nominated for five Tonys, including Best Revival), stars Oscar nominee Rose Byrne and Tony winner Kelli O’Hara, both of whom are currently Tony-nominated for their performances. The performance will stream live for subscribers of BroadwayHD beginning at 7 PM ET June 5, and will be available to stream on demand for the two weeks that follow, through June 19.
Fallen Angels is one of two (so far) of this season’s plays that will broadcast live stage films. Giant, currently playing a Broadway transfer at the Music Box Theatre, will broadcast a filmed performance from the production’s run in London’s West End this fall.
Roundabout Fallen Angels officially opened at the Todd Haimes Theatre on Broadway April 19 after beginning previews March 27. The limited engagement will continue through June 7.
The play follows two wealthy married women who, with husbands away, toast their pre-wedding loves—who happen to be the same man, who’s on his way to visit. The work premiered in London in 1925, coming to Broadway in 1927. Early productions attracted the ire of censors, who objected to its shocking depiction of women acknowledging premarital sex.
Starring Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You) as Jane Banbury and O’Hara (The King and I) as Julia Sterroll, the leading pair are joined by Tracee Chimo (Noises Off) as Saunders, Mark Conseulos (Orphans) as Maurice Duclos, Christopher Fitzgerald (Waitress) as Willy Banbury, and Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show) as Fred Sterroll. Casting is by Carrie Gardner, Stephen Kopel, and Jim Carnahan.
Understudies for the production include Tina Benko, Christopher Innvar, Max Gordon Moore, and Laura Shoop.
Scott Ellis (Art) is directing the new staging, with scenic design by David Rockwell, costume design by Jeff Mahshie, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, and sound design by John Gromada. Hair and wig design for the production is by David Brian Brown and Victoria Tinsman.
Mary-Mitchell Campbell is the production’s music consultant, Kate Wilson is the voice coach, and additional material has been provided by Claudia Shear. Larry Smiglewski is the production stage manager, with production management by Aurora Productions. Denise Cooper is the general manager.
