United States Capitol Police headquarters temporarily evacuated due to suspicious vehicle

U.S. Capitol Police headquarters was evacuated temporarily Friday morning after officers located a suspicious vehicle nearby.

The vehicle was found in the 100 block of D Street NE, the same block as the headquarters building.

Officials instructed occupants to remain calm, take annunciators while exiting, and close doors behind them without locking. Staff were told to proceed to their designated assembly areas and check in with their OEC. An all clear was issued around 7:30 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

Some roads in the area were closed during the investigation but have since reopened, including D Street between First and Second Streets NE, First Street between D Street and Columbus Circle NE, and Second Street between Massachusetts and Constitution Avenues NE. Additionally, Checkpoints 8, 9 and 10 were closed and have reopened.
