Road closures planned across Salt Lake City for marathon

Several streets across Salt Lake City are scheduled to close temporarily Saturday for the Salt Lake City Marathon.

On April 25, the day of the race, some roads will be closed until 3 p.m. Closures will go into effect before 6:45 a.m.

Officials said more than 200 intersections will be impacted, whether through full closures or lane restrictions, across the race path.

The following map shows which streets will be closed and how long each closure will last:

Race start times for the marathon and half marathon are set for 7 a.m. The 10K runs are scheduled to start at 7:05 a.m., and the 5K run will begin at 7:10 a.m.

According to marathon organizers, Salt Lake City police and Unified Police officers will be posted at major intersections to allow crowds to cross at certain times, if possible.

Here is the notice marathon organizers sent to residents and businesses about the closures:

“Although we do our best to lessen any impact on our community, we expect that there will be some impact on traffic to your homes or places of business on race morning. We will keep you as informed as possible about the race route and reopening schedule. With some advanced planning and allowing for a little additional travel time, we hope the impact will be minimal.

To ensure the safety of our participants, we select course segments that require 100% closure. Many course segments are only restricted to one-way traffic. We take our direction from the public safety departments of the participating municipalities of Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Millcreek, and Holladay.

In some areas the course will be only available for use by the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K Run, and 5K Run participants. Some of these select street closures could be for up to seven hours.

Be sure to plan ahead for the best routes to your home or business!

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience we may cause and appreciate your understanding to help us put on a world-class event for our athletes, Salt Lake City, and our great state of Utah!”
