NBA Playoffs biggest surprises
For the Win’s Prince Grimes and USA TODAY Sports’ Lorenzo Reyes break down the biggest surprises from the first week of the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
We knew he was getting close. And once again, he’s taking us down to the wire.
Joel Embiid has been out of the Sixers lineup since undergoing an emergency appendectomy April 9. The Sixers are battling the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs, where the Celtics enjoy a 2-1 lead over their rivals.
Injuries have plagued the Sixers for the better part of a decade, and Embiid has been one of the biggest problems, suffering freak injuries every year.
Embiid is listed as doubtful tonight in Game 4 of the Sixers vs. Celtics series, and remained listed as doubtful at 5 p.m., two hours before tipoff. It might be more realistic to expect a Game 5 return, though Embiid did join the team for a shootaround, and it’s still possible he returns tonight.
If Embiid does play, it’s hard to imagine he’ll get a full compliment of minutes, but his return would only help.
Embiid will workout before the game, but look for Tuesday for his return.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is also in danger of missing tonight’s game. He’s listed as questionable with right adductor soreness.
The Sixers play the Celtics in Game 4 of their first-round NBA Playoff matchup on April 26.
The game will be played at 7 p.m.
The game will air on NBC.
The game will stream on Peacock.
The Celtics are favored by 7.5. The over/under is 213.5
The Sixers are taking it right to the Celtics, but without Embiid, they don’t have the firepower. The Celtics are better. Prediction: Celtics 110, Sixers 101
