Bryson DeChambeau embraces rivalry with Rory McIlroy
Bryson DeChambeau says his rivalry with Rory McIlroy is built on respect but fueled by the desire to win.
MASTERS
Many in the golf world cheered and breathed a sigh of relief last year when Rory McIlroy won the Masters, finally completing his Grand Slam. Now, he has the chance to do what only three other champions have done: Win back-to-back green jackets.
McIlroy finds himself atop the leaderboard as the second round begins Friday, tied with Sam Burns at 5-under.
Here’s a look at his financial wins as well as some of his personal and career highlights:
McIlroy’s net worth is estimated to be north of $200 million, but the exact figure fluctuates depending on the source.
McIlroy has won the second highest amount of prize money over the course of his career: $110,196,641 with just over $2.2 million year-to-date. Tiger Woods is ahead of him by about $10.8 million over the course of his career.
Last year, Forbes ranked McIlroy as the third highest paid golfer in the world with $84 million in earnings over a 12-month period. This broke down to $39 million on-course and $45 million off-course. The highest paid were Jon Rahm followed by Scottie Scheffler.
McIlroy was born in Holywood, Northern Ireland, and has homes in Northern Ireland, in Wentworth outside of London, and in Jupiter, FL.
McIlroy’s wife is Erica Stoll, who was a PGA transport official when they met. April 22 will mark nine years of marriage for the couple.
McIlroy and Stole share a five-year-old daughter Poppy.
McIlroy was born on May 4, 1989 making him 36 years old.
McIlroy’s had 29 PGA Tour wins. In addition to the Masters, some of the highlights include two PGA Championships, the Open Championship, the U.S. Open, the Ryder Cup, and two Players Championships.
He also represented Ireland in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics.
As of publication, McIlroy is tied for the lead in this year’s Masters with Sam Burns at 5 under par.
