(FOX40.COM) – After entering the NCAA transfer portal in April. Sacramento State guard Mikey Williams has decided to stay with the Hornets. The standout guard is returning for the 2026-27 season, the university confirmed Monday.
Williams initially entered the portal in April following his first season at Sacramento State, where he helped bring national attention to the program. The former high school phenom from San Diego averaged 17.1 points through 21 games last season, becoming one of the centerpieces of the Hornets rebuild under first-year head coach Mike Bibby.

Before joining the Hornets, Williams also spent time with Memphis and the University of Central Florida. As a four-star high school recruit, he gained national fame for his scoring ability and viral highlight videos.
When Williams entered the portal in April, it marked another major offseason move for a Sacramento State program already navigating roster turnover. He became the seventh player from last year’s roster to enter the portal.
Two of those players have since found new homes. Center Jeremiah Cherry committed to San Diego State, while forward Mark Lavrenov committed to New Mexico State.
Jayden Teat, Jahni Summers, Jeremiah Nyarko, and Prophet Johnson remain in the portal.

• Osiris Grady (F, UC Riverside)
• João Das Chagas (C, UAB)
• Ridvan Tutic (F/C, Stonehill)
• Mason Hunt (F, Pima JC)
• Melvin Stubbs Jr. (G, Sandra Day O’Connor HS)
