It might not have been a Powerball jackpot, but a man from suburban Cleveland literally turned trash into treasure, winning $50,000.
According to the Ohio Lottery, a man from Euclid played numbers from a discarded Pick 5 ticket, winning the top prize during the April 28 drawing.
The man told the Ohio Lottery that he rarely plays. However, he found a Pick 5 ticket on the ground one day and decided to play the numbers. He didn’t win but he kept the tickets.
He said that he and his buddies from work were feeling lucky on April 28, 2026, so he decided to purchase a ticket. He told the lottery that he remembered he had his original ticket in his glove compartment, so he asked the clerk to replay the same numbers. This time luck was on his side.
Dennis Balaz of Sunbury bought a variety of lottery tickets at Hub Carry Out, 245 N Columbus St, Sunbury, on Wednesday, January 20, 2020.
The man’s numbers — 7-3-4-2-1 — were picked in the evening drawing.
The winning Pick 5 ticket was sold at Eddy’s Mini Mart in Cleveland.
He won $50,000 on his $1 straight bet. Odds of matching all five numbers in order are 1 in 100,000.
Pick 5 drawings are held daily, seven days a week, at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m., and broadcast statewide. Saturday evening drawings occur during the Cash Explosion television show, which airs from 7:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
