Alexander Zverev records 550th win of career with night-time victory at Roland Garros

Zverev had already impressed at Roland Garros earlier in the week, breezing past Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi in his first-round match on Sunday, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, and he made even quicker work of Machac under the lights of Court Philippe Chatrier on Wednesday night.

The German asserted himself early, breaking serve in the very first game of the match, and that was all he needed as the two traded holds for the next nine games until he served the first set out at love.

The floodgates opened from there as he broke four more times—twice in the second set and twice in the third set—en route to a comprehensive victory after an hour and 48 minutes on court.

The world No. 3 finished with an incredible 45 winners to just 17 unforced errors, with more than half of that surplus coming from his serve, which produced 19 aces to just 2 double faults.

He was never broken, either, saving the lone break point he faced, and converting 5 of his own 11 break point opportunities.

It was Zverev’s 30th win of the year, just the second man to hit that number after Jannik Sinner, who’s had 37 wins this season.
