You recently got married. You’ve described your relationship in the past as “a snack-based relationship.” Tell me how that developed.

The relationship or the snacking?

The snacking.

I mean, I’ll be frank, it’s because I’m a huge stoner. After 6 p.m., when I start smoking weed, it’s game over. I mean, part of it is I have ADHD, so I take Adderall during the day, which makes it very easy to fast until a certain point. And then I smoke weed at night, which makes it very hard to fast at a certain point.

Are there any particular go-to snacks you have to have?

I mean, they’re not paying me to say this, but I’m a big Thrive market user because I know that I’m going to be consuming food. So what I try to do is only have available stuff in the house that is reasonably good for you, to some degree. I am big on fried chicken skin as a low carb chip substitute, fruit leather instead of candy, protein ice cream, shit like that. So that it tricks you into thinking that you are being bad, but in fact, you are actually being bad in a more contained way.

It has not happened in a long time. [Laughs] It’s funny that so many people associate me with the blended chicken from that period, an earlier period of my life. I think probably the last time I did this was pre-pandemic.

When I was doing it, it was when I was less economically stable. It was a very cheap way to eat a lot of food very quickly. And I did it mostly because of the fasting. When I was in my eating periods, it was very difficult for me to eat the right amount of calories within the eating period because I would just get full. And so it was a very efficient way for me to consume a lot of calories, a lot of protein, when I wasn’t very hungry to do it.

And people are always like, why not protein shakes? And it’s like, yes, I was drinking protein shakes too, but at a certain point, I was really cognizant of wanting to get my protein from sources that weren’t artificial. I think it’s always better to eat real food as much as possible instead of supplements. And so, that was just my cost-efficient, time-efficient way to do it.

And then I no longer need to be as cost-efficient as I once was. I’m very blessed now to say that I’m not in a financial position where the cheapness of the meal is paramount to me. And I’ll say the other thing is, I’m in a relationship now, so I am probably slightly less adherent to a strict diet than I once was.

Tell me what the relationship has to do with not being as strict with the diet.

It’s not that I don’t care what I look like anymore, but I have the security of knowing that someone’s going to love me no matter what I look like. So I’m less neurotic, I think, about what I put in my body than I once was because I’m always going to stay a certain level of fit, not only for myself, but also because I want to still be attractive to my partner, but it is less of a need to be attractive for everybody now.

There’s a safety and a security in being in a committed relationship where, you know, it just doesn’t matter as much to me because it matters less to him.
