Learner Tien and Alex Michelsen will clash in an all-American quarterfinal contest at the Geneva ATP 250 on Thursday. Alexander Bublik takes on France’s own Arthur Rinderknech in an all-seeded affair.
(4) Learner Tien vs. Alex Michelsen
This all-American Geneva Open quarterfinal pits 20th-ranked Learner Tien, the No. 4 seed, against unseeded Alex Michelsen (No. 41). History belongs firmly to Michelsen. He leads the head-to-head 3-1, with all three of his wins coming in straight sets — including a 6–4, 6–2 dismissal in Brisbane this January and the pair’s only meeting on clay, a 6-4, 6-2 win in Houston last year.
Form, though, cuts both ways. Tien just dispatched Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-6, 7-6 even though the dirt is his weakest surface. Michelsen, for his part, edged retiring home favorite Stan Wawrinka in two tiebreakers to reach his second Geneva quarterfinal. Expect a tight contest between two players still finding their footing on the surface. Michelsen’s stranglehold on the H2H should hold up just enough, but a confident Tien will make him earn it.

(2) Alexander Bublik vs. (5) Arthur Rinderknech
Second seed Alexander Bublik, now at a career-high ranking of No. 10, faces France’s Arthur Rinderknech (No. 24, seeded fifth). Rinderknech leads the head-to-head 2-1, but the most relevant data point favors Bublik: their only meeting on clay, at Roland Garros 2022, went the Kazakh’s way in straight sets — with Bublik firing 16 aces and never facing a break point.
Current form only widens the gap. Bublik is 16-10 in 2026 with a title in Hong Kong, and he breezed into the last eight by this week by beating Edas Butvilas 6-4, 6-3 in just 80 minutes. Rinderknech, 8-11 on the season, needed a draining two-hour and 46-minute three-set escape against Laslo Djere — more than double Bublik’s time on court — and that fatigue could be a factor. Bublik is fresher, in better form, and armed with bigger weapons. He should advance without too much difficulty.
